He holds a special place of honor
In his mother's heart
It has always been that way
Right from the very start

God has given me this precious gift
From the heavens above
To nurture and to care for
To cherish and to love

From an infant to a toddler
To the young man he is today
It has been a joy to watch
all of the changes along the way

He was my chubby, little baby
All cuddly and sweet
Learning to smile, to laugh
And to catch his little feet

Then he was my toddler
So full of wonder and mischief
Learning to talk, to walk
And get into trouble beyond belief

Those memories from early childhood
Can never be replaced
But we'll be adding new ones
From experiences not yet faced

Which brings me to the young man
That my little boy has become
Independent individual and innocent child
Rolled into one

He has already experienced and achieved
So many positive things
Which shows me his potential to reach
Any goal that his future brings

Though the years to come may prove difficult
Even at their best
I hope the love that we share
Will pass the "teen years" test

There will be times we disagree
About everything beneath the sun
May those days be balanced out
By all of the good times and the fun

Though my "fretting" and "nagging"
May make him lose every single hair
I think in the end that he will realize
It is only because I care

I dream of being friends one day
As well as mother and son
When he has reached adulthood
And is living on his own

No matter what the future brings
Or what trials are thrown our way
I will always love my "little boy"
Throughout each and every day
