~~~ I Love You Dad ~~~
Father
My perceptions of you
Have changed through the years
Changes resulting from
Happy times, growth and tears
To a little girl you seemed bigger than life
So smart and strong
That perfect image held by children
That is natural but wrong
Don't worry I still feel the same
To a certain degree
Just on a level
Closer to reality
For a brief, painful time
We drifted apart
But we were lucky and
God gave us a brand new start
Since then we have grown closer
And become best friends
I will always be grateful
We were able to make amends
I respect and admire
The strength you displayed
By making changes in your life
To rectify the mistakes that you made
And though you had many trials
Of your own to work through
You were there to talk and listen
When I needed you
You have a unique personality
And you make people smile
You're always there to lend a hand
And to go that extra mile
Sometimes I neglect to tell you
How much you mean to me
And I hope as you read this poem
My love is plain to see
I have one final expression
Of my love for you Father
I am very proud to say
That I am your daughter
