I gave my dad a painting of a black leopard for Christmas (2000)
as he considers the leopard one of several animals that has
a spiritual significance in his life. I hope he understands
the underlying significance of this poem.
Spirit of Strength
Look deep into her eyes
See the strength and pride
Let her spirit guide you
Feel her presence by your side
She moves with a natural grace
Each day a step into the future
Living life at her own pace
Learning to survive and to prosper
A worthy adversary in the wilderness
A trusted protector in a domestic home
Treat her with the respect she deserves
A mutual respect will be given in return
