What if all the words we say
Were judged just like a crime?
If we used them to cause harm
And we could possibly do time?

Think how careful we would be
Before we voiced each word
We'd review them in our head
Before they were ever heard

We would not use our emotions
Such as anger, pain or sorrow
To make excuses for the words
That we may regret tomorrow

We also would not be so quick
To judge the quality of others
To put down or make fun of
Strangers, friends or brothers

Of course this would not create
Perfect peace and harmony
But we would all surely benefit
If thoughtless words weren't free
